In 2011 I composed a publish asking why some people were rejected when trying to embrace dogs from shelters or rescues. Later, I composed a publish on exactly how to get a pet dog adoption application approved.
I checked out all the readers’ comments from those posts, as well as produced two lists:
1. reasons people stated they were rejected from adopting a dog
2. reasons people stated they gave up on adopting a dog
I hope these listings will motivate shelter as well as rescue directors, workers as well as volunteers to chill out their adoption procedures even just a little.
If somebody has a positive experience with a rescue group, she will tell her friends. She will be a lot more likely to donate as well as volunteer. She will be a lot more likely to persuade others to adopt. as well as when she is trying to find one more pet, she will be a lot more likely to embrace again.
That being said, right here were a few of the responses:
Reasons people were rejected from adopting a pet dog from a shelter or rescue
They were college students
They were under age 25
They would be first-time pet dog owners
They were single as well as worked full time
The prospective adopter worked 10-hour shifts
Both partners worked 9-5
Their commute to work was “too long”
They hadn’t made a decision whether or not they were going to have children
They had young children
They had young grandchildren
They had indoor cats
They had outside cats
They resided in an apartment
They did not own their home
They did not own a fenced yard
Their entire residential or commercial property was not fenced
They lived out of town
They lived out of the metro area
They lived out of the county
They lived out of state
They lived on a farm
Did not want to show proof of earnings by showing a tax return
They did not have a present veterinarian (because they were first-time pet dog owners)
They might not supply receipts for a full year’s supply of heartworm prevention medication
They selected not to provide heartworm prevention meds in the wintertime months
The prospective adopter did not provide heartworm prevention to his senior pet dog dying of cancer
The prospective adopter did not vaccinate a pet ferret for rabies
Current family pets were not “up to date” on the kennel cough vaccine
Current dogs were not spayed/neutered since they were show dogs
Current dogs were not spayed/neutered for health and wellness reasons or since of old age
A show-quality feline was not spayed
Some were not provided a reason in any way – They just never heard back!
*Note: I would likewise be rejected for at least nine of these reasons if I tried to embrace from a few of these places! exactly how about you?
Reasons people provided up on adopting a pet dog from a shelter or rescue
The shelters as well as rescues did not respond to phone calls or emails
They sent in applications as well as never heard back
The adoption process was “demoralizing”
Shelter workers were disrespectful or lacked fundamental client service
The adoption charges were high (As high as $900!)
They might not satisfy any type of dogs up until filling out an application
They might not satisfy any type of dogs up until paying a $30 fee
They were not enabled to select a pet dog themselves (the rescue got to decide)
Did not want to submit to a pre-adoption house visit
Did not want to submit to surprise house gos to after the adoption
Did not want to provide their social safety numbers to the rescue
The application needed an essay titled “A day in the life of your new dog”
Could not pay for the needed “holistic” pet dog food
Did not want to total “multiple” interviews
Did not want to take the mandatory pet dog training class
Yep, a few of those reasons would be sufficient to cause me to provide up, too. great grief! Craigslist dogs, anyone?
And exactly how can we phone call it “pet overpopulation” when shelters as well as rescues are refusing to embrace out their dogs? Αυτό είναι σωστό! It’s since we have a advertising problem. Not an overpopulation problem.
What is the option to this problem?
